Fairfax NOVA: The Driving Force Behind the #1 Tech Hub in North America
Blending hard infrastructure information with talent metrics shows where tech reigns supreme: The Washington, D.C. region has been ranked as the #1 Tech Hub in North America in the Site Selection’s inaugural North American Tech Hubs Index, solidifying the region’s reputation as a powerhouse for cutting-edge innovation, entrepreneurship, and accelerated business growth.
At the center of the #1 Tech Hub in North America is Fairfax County, globally recognized as the economic engine that drives the growth of the Washington, D.C., region’s thriving technology ecosystem.
“Fairfax County’s success in building a world-class economy has been fueled by our strategic transformation from merely a government town to a globally recognized deep tech powerhouse with an ecosystem of more than 10,000 technology companies,” said Victor Hoskins, president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA).
“For decades, FCEDA has been committed to leading this transformation for the region. And, for the past five years, we have deliberately accelerated our efforts to foster business investment and talent attraction, expansion, and growth in targeted sectors from Artificial Intelligence (AI) to quantum technology, space commercialization and next-generation digital infrastructure to drive innovation,” Hoskins continued.
“The total economic impact of our accelerated efforts focusing on growing and attracting investment in deep tech has been substantial. Between 2019 and 2023, the businesses we supported produced $22.8 billion in total output or sales, $10.3 billion in employee income, and 73,102 jobs in the region. In Fairfax County alone, these businesses generated over $5.8 billion in local employee compensation and added 41,846 jobs to the local economy.” |
